About Us

Puerto Rico Dogs consists of Sheyla Gutiérrez and her husband, Dennis Martínez. Sheyla Gutiérrez is a CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer) originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and owner of Puerto Rico Dogs, where she offered training services to dogs and their owners in obedience, house training, rally and agility.  She also offers consultation services to owners with dogs with aggression problems, separation anxiety situations and other behavior issues.

Sheyla is a part and member of various canine organizations like the Caribe Kennel Club, a Tester/Observer for Therapy Dogs Inc., tester for the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program, Professional member of the Professional Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and presenter for Dogs and Storks TM, certified as a CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer) and an American Kennel Club (AKC) agility judge.

Sheyla has been training with her dogs in Obedience  since she first adopted her Labrador Retriever Zohé.  Her love of learning and reading have helped her in sharing her knowledge with new owners and helping them learn to properly communicate with their dogs.  Sheyla feels training should be fun for both dog and handler, and of course humane. She  feels you can teach a dog to do wonderful things with the proper reinforcement techniques and there is no need to force them to do anything they themselves do not want, or are not ready to do.

Sheyla’s dogs are all rescues, but through happy and loving training, they have all achieved many wonderful things. With positive reinforcement methods her dogs have achieved and learned many things and have overcome many of their fears and traumas. All of them have practiced basic obedience, all have achieved their CGC certification and some have even achieved advanced obedience and agility titles. She has given many different demonstrations, visited schools, camps and hospitals, represented the island in national events and has made many appearances in local and national television.

She currenlty resides in Miami, FL offering private and group dog training services. She has collaborated with local Businesses like: Annette Alfonso from Agile Agility, Dog Connection, and Paws in Motion.
